Vasily Alexeyev using Kettlebell

January 18th, 2009

Some months ago, I was reading an article on the barbell press (pdf) by Mark Rippetoe, where he says:

Vasily Alexeyev, the “Big Russian” weightlifter from the 1970s and the strongest
presser in history, was not merely a fat man.

This made me google for Vasily Alexeyev and I came to this gallery and to this image showing him clearly training with a kettlebell. The caption says:

To warm his muscles up before a training session Vasily “toyed” with this 72 kg (158.75 lb) weight.

Not a fat man indeed. And what about Valentin Dikul? Is he fat?
